Hymns One

Song has been a way of reaching God to commune with Him for as long as there has been awareness. Song is God’s idea. Music is part of the rhythm of God’s creation. The prophet Zephaniah describes how God sings over us (Zeph. 3:17). King David wrote a plethora of praise songs to God called Psalms. In the biblical book Revelation, St. John describes how angels and those who have passed before us into God’s presence are singing songs to Him ongoing in heaven (Rev. 5:11-13).

The word hymn comes from the Greek word meaning songs of praise. Hymns as we know them generally refer to songs to God, developed since the first centuries after Jesus. Martin Luther encouraged people to sing together in congregations. Isaac Watts believed songs should express the current-day religious sentiment of the people.

The goal of this album is to give new voice to a mixture of beloved and lesser-known hymns. Where possible, effort has been made to return to more original lyrics. I pray you are blessed as you connect your praise with that of those who have sung these centuries before you and all those who are to come. May it be a continuous, never-ending stream of sung praise to our God.
